Linux Assets Register Logon Screen
FAQ
Question |
Answer |
Why do I have to logon |
This is a multiuser system, multi entity system. |
What if I forget my password |
You have to ask for it by letterhead. |
Why use Linux |
I had enough trouble saving up for the hardware!! Also I don't like Big Brother taking a look in my computer. You wouldn't like it if one of your employees started gossiping about sensitive corporate information, why tolerate the same behaviour from an Operating System. |
If this system is stuck on a network do I need to use Linux on my computer |
Google uses Linux too. All you need is a GUI browser which supports tables. |
What is depreciation anyway |
Something for Accountants by Accountants, in a nutshell - if you buy $100,000 car this year and its going to last 5 years then the expense is spread over 5 years. For those managers who don't know accounting view it as one of those compliance issues which simply has to be done. It makes good sense to comply with the minimum amount of fuss and expenditure. |
What's the deal with Open Source |
Well you can get into the guts of the thing and change its nature, add to it, etc. You can also completely stuff it trying, so make a backup put the back up on another machine and modify and test it there. |
We already use Microsoft SQL Server are you going to develop an assets register for this? |
No, I only need one assets register for myself. I feel however that many people make the mistake of hugging onto a type of technology too tightly. Lets say for example when adding users you use the employee number from the payroll in SQL Server and call up the employee details for the fixed assets register in Postgresql to use. If you can afford SQL Server then you can afford an extra machine running postgresql. Its not the big deal many managers think it is. |
